Camp Fire USA Quality Improvement System

Camp Fire USA is leading the way toward improving staff training and program quality in youth programs through the Camp Fire USA Program Quality Assessment. This assessment tool evaluates the quality of programs and identifies staff training needs.

Forty Camp Fire USA councils participated in the field test in 2010, and the results were significant. Participation was high, most participants said the process led to improvements in staff skills and program quality, and several staff practices were identified for improvement.

The assessment tool has been further customized for 2011, with every Camp Fire council expected to participate. Among other things, each council will complete a self assessment on between one and five program sites each year, develop an improvement plan for each site and submit data to the Weikart Center to help produce a national Camp Fire USA summary.
